ABOUT

Under the patronage of Tsar Nicholas II's third daughter, the Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna, The Society of Fraternal Aid was established to provide assistance to soldiers and families during the First World War through funds, food, housing, education, and jobs. The Grand Duchess herself often spent time in orphanages and hospitals, supplying knitted items, sewing clothes, and keeping written correspondences with those at the frontlines.

Revived in the summer of 2018 in memory of the 100th anniversary of the murder of the imperial family, today the legacy is continued by grassroots organizers wishing to make a difference in the lives of soldiers and war torn families across the globe. To date, the reestablished Society of Fraternal Aid has received hundreds of knitted items and basic necessities for donation, and thousands of dollars in fundraising for charitable programs.
